The Shaunavon Badgers have advanced to the second round of the SHA Senior Provincial “B” hockey playoffs.

The Badgers (Whitemud Hockey League) doubled the Rouleau Ramblers (Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League) 4-2 in overtime on Saturday night to capture the two-game total point series eight goals to seven goals. The Badgers won the game on Saturday 3-2 in regulation time which tied the series 7-7 so the overtime session was needed to declare a winner. The Ramblers had won the opener 5-4 on January 30 in Rouleau.
J.J. Hunter of the Badgers sent the packed house away happy after scoring the overtime winner on a penalty shot at 8:19 of the extra session. Hunter faked Rambler tender Colin Munroe and went to his backhand for the series winner. A Rouleau player dislodged the net intentionally and Hunter was awarded  the penalty shot.
J.J. Hunter also scored the Badgers third goal on a feed from D-man Joe Logan at 15:23 of the final frame. Brock Hunter fired an unassisted tally at 14:57 of the third period. Luke Hunter blinked the red light for the first Badger goal with Cam Van Sandt drawing the assist.
Lonny Forrester put the Ramblers on the scoreboard only 11 seconds into the contest after beating Badger keeper Jamie Poppy. Ryan Kuntz cashed in on a two-man advantage early in the third period after directing a shot from the point. The goal gave the Ramblers a 2-0 lead setting the stage for the Badger rally. Kellen Sellinger collected two assists for the Ramblers with Mike Berg and Lonny Forrester picking up singles.
Referee Darwin Seidler of Swift Current assessed 11 minor infractions to each club. The series was a nailbiter and the boisterous fans at Jubilee Arena were treated to excellent hockey.
The Badgers will move on to the next round along the provincial trail against either the Balcarres Broncs or Strasbourg.
