Generous donation helps purchase of new emergency vehicle

The Shaunavon Fire Department was able to purchase a new emergency vehicle last fall, thanks to a generous donation from Crescent Point Energy.

Crescent Point made a donation of $35,000 towards the purchase of the truck.

“When we started looking into a new vehicle, we assumed it was going to be a year-long project and pounding the pavement for funding,” said Shaunavon Fire Chief Dean McNabb. “But then Crescent Point stepped forward in a big way. The support we received from them has been incredible.”

“Crescent Point takes great pride in its community support,” said Lawrence (Hoss) Malek of Crescent Point Energy. Often, the fire department is responding to scenes in communities where our employees work and offering assistance to our families and neighbours.”

The new vehicle replaces a ‘99 GMC extended cab truck that had over 260,000 kilometres.

The new unit – which has been described as a transitional fire truck – has proven to be an extremely valuable addition to the fleet. The vehicle gives the local department another important firefighting tool. It is quick to respond to fire scenes and serves as a versatile unit once it is there.

The vehicle’s emergency options will increase when a skid is added to the unit and it will have the ability to carry a 250 gallon tank and will also have foam spraying capabilities.

The unit was purchased through funds acquired from past fundraising efforts, such as the fire department’s annual golf tournament and hot dog sales with CJSN. The skid unit costs around $25,000.
