Sharon Dickie Award winner announced

Posted on June 20, 2017 by Shaunavon Standard

The first annual Sharon Dickie Award has been awarded to Hannah MacNeil of Shaunavon. Hannah, who is 18 and a Shaunavon High student, is the daughter of Paul and Vivienne MacNeil and will be studying Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan in the fall. Hannah was chosen from several exceptional applicants who met the criteria of Love of Community, Passion, a Healthy Competitive Nature and a Team First Attitude.
Dickie family members developed the award to give back to the youth of the community of Shaunavon, and to honor the efforts of Sharon Dickie – who recently retired from a long standing term as mayor of the town.
Committee members were wowed by the quality of candidates and the number of applicants, but were ultimately impressed with Hannah’s combination of high achievement combined with her passion for competitive sport, fine arts, community and working well with those around her.
The award is unique in nature in that it is open to any Shaunavon and area youth, between the ages of 16 and 20, and can be applied to either nontraditional or traditional training in sport, fine arts and/or academics.
