The Shaunavon Badgers swept a three game home stand last week at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre. The Badgers cruised to a 14-1 decision over the Cabri Bulldogs on Saturday evening. The Badgers’ Whitemud Hockey League slate is 13 wins, two losses and an overtime loss for 27 points.J.J. Hunter, Trevor Aadland, Dusty Hunter, Todd Hornung, Luke Hunter and Ryan Wallis sniped two goals apiece for the Badgers. Tanner Tetrault and Conrad Pearce were the other marksmen. Rej Stringer led the assist parade with four followed by Tanner Tetrault with a trio of helpers. Darren Larson, Dusty Hunter, Todd Hornung, Luke Hunter and J.J. Hunter picked up two apiece. Conrad Pearce and Trevor Aadland had the others. Cody Aldag scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs with Brent Wilson drawing the assist. Russ Monette backstopped the Badgers’ win while Jim Hale and Ryan Chamberlain split the goaltending chores for the Bulldogs. Referee Brian Swarbrick of Frontier handed Cabri two minors and a 10 minute misconduct. The Badgers were assessed two minor infractions. The Shaunavon Badgers rolled past the Frontier Flyers 9-2 on Friday night before a good crowd at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre. The home side enjoyed leads of 5-1 and 7-2 at the intermission breaks. Captain J.J. Hunter scored on a snap shot and added a shorthanded tally to pace the Badgers’ attack. D-man Blair Simpson scored on a lob shot which floated past Flyers’ keeper Kevin Onerheim at 17:35 of the opening period. Trevor Aadland scored seven seconds into the power play early in the second frame. Conrad Pearce, Rej Stringer, Luke Hunter, Tanner Tetrault and Dusty Hunter notched the other goals. The assist breakdown was Ryan Wallis (two), Rej Stringer (two), Trevor Aadland (two), Todd Hornung (two), Quintin Cairns (two), Luke Hunter (one), Rod Thienes (one), Dusty Hunter (one) and Darren Larson (one). Murray Froese counted a power play marker at 6:47 of the first period. Brady Samoleski chipped in a power play goal late in the middle stanza. Kyle Hardin, Dusty Dickson, Kerry Gordon and Matt Hyam picked up solo helpers. Jamie Poppy earned the win in the Badgers’ cage. Referees Stuart Smith and Lindsay Miyashiro of Swift Current issued eight of the 11 minors against the Badgers. The Shaunavon Badgers skated to a 7-3 decision over the visiting Gull Lake Greyhounds on Wednesday evening at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre. The Badgers led the contest 3-1 and 6-1 at the period breaks. Captain J.J. Hunter sparked the home side with a four goal outing including one on a nifty backhand play. Todd Hornung started the ball rolling by jamming in a shot from the side of the net only 43 seconds into the game. Rej Stringer and Evan Horn were the other Badger marksmen. Andy Schneider led the assist derby with a trio of helpers. J.J. Hunter collected a pair followed by Luke Hunter, Blair Simpson, Rej Stringer and Clay Weppler with singles. Matt Jones tallied twice and chipped in an assist to pace the Greyhounds’ attack. The first marker by Jones came 38 seconds into a power play opportunity at 9:29 of the opening frame. Chris Kirwan also blinked the red light for the Gull Lake squad. Captain Tyson Migneault picked up three helpers with Levi Armstrong and Cody Vaughan adding the others. Maverick Holmes of the Greyhounds and Trevor Aadland of the Badgers battled to a draw during a spirited five knuckle shuffle late in the middle stanza. Jamie Poppy backstopped the Badgers to the victory. Riley Kornfeld started in the Greyhound cage but was replaced by Brad Barsness at 9:53 of the second period. Referee Gerald Johnson of Swift Current whistled down seven minors, fight major and a game misconduct to the Badgers. The Greyhounds were in the sin bin for six minors, one double minor, fight major, two-10 minute misconducts and a game misconduct. |
