The Shaunavon Badgers clipped the Assiniboia Rebels 11-4 before an excellent crowd of patrons at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre on Sunday night. The Badgers eliminated the Rebels 14 goals to 7 goals in their SHA “B” two game total goal series.Trevor Aadland of the Badgers scored a goal in each period to net the hat trick. Captain J.J. Hunter wired a shot from the circle that found the top shelf at 15:31 of the middle stanza. J.J. also deposited the biscuit into the net at 12:19 of the opening period. Rej Stringer notched a pair including one off a deflection on the power play. Quintin Cairns tallied two-third period goals for the Badgers. Dusty Hunter and Geoff Fisher also lit the red lamp for the home side. Andy Schneider paced the assist derby with five helpers. Geoff Fisher and Justin Menke collected three assists apiece. Trevor Aadland, Clay Weppler and Rej Stringer picked up two helpers each. J.J. Hunter, Kirk Mastad and Luke Hunter were credited with singles. Darren Martens bulged twine twice within a 12 second span with less than one minute remaining in the second for the Rebels. Brian Ruthven scored on the power play with only nine ticks left on the clock. Joe Jansen rifled a wrist shot from the circle to account for Assiniboia’s other marker. Todd Doepker picked up two assists for the Rebels followed by Joe Jansen, Justin Blacklock, Taylor Vandesype and Darren Martens with solo assists. Russ Monette earned the win in the Badger cage and was steady between the pipes. Rebels’ starter Spencer Bushell allowed five goals and was replaced by back-up Theo Toma at 11:14 of the second frame. Referee Stuart Smith of Swift Current assessed five minor infractions to each club. The Shaunavon Badgers (Whitemud Hockey League) and Assiniboia Rebels (Notekeu Hockey League) skated to a 3-3 draw on Thursday evening in Assiniboia. The period scores were 1-1 with the Badgers ahead 3-2 after 40 minutes. Andy Schneider paced the Shaunavon attack with one goal and an assist. Dusty Hunter and Rej Stringer were the other triggermen for the Badgers. Evan Schafer led the assist derby with three followed by Milt Mastad with a single helper. Jared Bourassa, Taylor Vandesypo and Joe Jansen blinked the red light for the Rebels. Todd Doepker, Evan Schwabe, Lane Jepson and Darren Martins collected solo assists. Rebels’ goaltender Spencer Bushell handled 42 shots while 38 shots were directed at Badgers’ goalkeeper Russ Monette. Referee Shane Smith called 10 minors, one slash major and a game misconduct to the Rebels. The Badgers were issued six minors, check from behind major, charge major and a pair of game misconducts. |
