The Montmartre Rivals have drawn first blood against the Shaunavon Badgers in their Provincial SHA Senior “B” two game-total point series. The Rivals of the Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League downed the visiting Badgers (Whitemud League) 5-3 on Sunday evening. The scores at the intermission breaks were 1-1 and 2-2.
Luke Hunter sparked the Badger attack with two goals and one assist. Todd Hornung turned in a solid outing by notching the other goal and chipping in a pair of helpers. Quintin Cairns collected two assists for Shaunavon while Brock Hunter was credited with the other. Kyle Deck, Jaret Ross, Dan Loffler, Matt Loffler and Warren Bashutski blinked the red lamp for the Rivals. Kelley Lueck picked up the win between the pipes for the Montmartre squad. Russ Monette took the loss in the Badgers’ crease. League leading scorer Geoff Fisher of the Consul Rockets and Todd Hornung of the Eastend Jets have been added to bolster the Badger roster. Rejean Stringer of Swift Current has also joined the team for the provincial run. The second contest in this opening round series is set for Jubilee Arena on Sunday, February 13. The Gull Lake Greyhounds whitewashed the Shaunavon Badgers 4-0 on January 25 during Fan Appreciation Night at the Gull Lake Recreational Complex. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and never looked back. The Badgers’ slate dips to nine wins, six losses and a tie for 19 points. Captain Tyson Migneault, Jeremy Rondeau, Maverick Holmes and Joe Logan deposited the biscuit past Badgers’ keeper Russ Monette. Jeff Kirwan paced the Hounds with a pair of assists. Matt Jones, Jason Cote, Brendan Jones, Chad Trapp and Chris Kirwan picked up solo helpers. Riley Kornfeld backstopped the win and registered the shutout in the Greyhound cage. Referee Darwin Seidler of Swift Current whistled down seven minors, a double minor and game misconduct to Gull Lake. The Badgers served eight minors and a 10 minute misconduct. The Badgers journey to Leader on Friday, February 4 in a rescheduled contest. Shaunavon hosts the Leader Flyers on Friday, February 11 at Jubilee Arena in another rescheduled game. |
