Posted on February 3, 2014 by Shaunavon Standard

There will be a three-person election to fill a vacant Shaunavon town council seat.

Two more candidates filed their nomination papers last week, joining Joel Sopp who announced his intention to run for council a week earlier. Rhonda Bellefeuille and Garrett Thienes are the two new election hopefuls. Bellefeuille Bellefeuille, a 30-year RM administrator, has had long-time interest in municipal politics. “Serving on Town Council has always interested me, having worked in the municipal government field my entire career,” she explained. “My decision to run for Town Council now is mainly because of my decision to retire soon, I know the time commitment a position on council can require. I am hopeful retirement will allow me the opportunity to commit this time . Rhonda and her husband Darrell have lived in Shaunavon most of their lives and raised their family in the community. She has served terms on a variety of community boards over the years, including The Shaunavon Playschool, Silver Blades, Jubilee Arena, Minor Ball and the Shaunavon Credit Union. “I feel I can offer a positive and forward thinking voice to the position of councillor for the Town of Shaunavon,” she stated. “I would like to congratulate Joel Sopp and Garrett Thienes as they have also accepted nomination for the position of councillor. I encourage all residents to exercise their right to vote. Shaunavon Town Council are representatives of your community.” Shaunavon voters will go to the polls on March 5. An advance poll will be conducted at the Town Office on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
