The Shaunavon Midget Badgers have three-peated in the South Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League.

The Midget Badgers nipped the Assiniboia Midget Stingers 3-2 on Wednesday evening at the Assiniboia Civic Centre. The victory enabled Shaunavon to clinch the best-of-five championship series three games to one. It is interesting to note that all three Shaunavon victories were by identical final counts of 3-2. Speedy forward Mac Oberle sniped the winning goal, a short-handed effort, at the midway point of the third period for the visiting Badgers with the assist going to Kyle Goffinet. Shaunavon held a first period margin of 1-0 with the contest tied at two after 40 minutes. Brock Larson opened the scoring for the Badgers with a first period tally. Blaze Larson and Taron Ham picked up assists. Taylor Cowie had the Badgers lone goal in the second frame. Carson Bell and Dakota Helland replied for Assiniboia. The Badgers jumped ahead in the series with a heart-stopping 3-2 double overtime victory at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre on March 24. Taylor Cowie sent the Badger fans home happy after triggering the unassisted winner at 4:11 of the fifth period. In fact, it was Taylor Cowie who scored all three times for the home side during game three. The flashy forward netted the natural hat trick to account for all the Badger goals. Kyle Goffinet was credited with two assists while Adam Peterson and Josh Peterson collected the others. Noah Miller of the Stingers scored on a seeing-eye wrist shot with only three seconds remaining in the first stanza. Logan Neff tapped one home at 17:01 of the second frame for Assiniboia. Carson Bell led the assist parade with a pair while Noah Miller chipped in the other. The Stingers held period leads of 1-0 and 2-0 with the game tied at two apiece at the end of regulation time. There was no scoring in the fourth period. The game also featured an excellent goaltending display by Darcy French (Badgers) and Nolan Berner (Stingers). Referees Kent Blyth and Ashley Lind assessed the Stingers with four minor penalties and a five-minute boarding major. The Midget Badgers served a couple of minor infractions.
