Climax Victoria’s Quilts group set for annual fundraiser

Members of the Climax branch of Victoria’s Quilts Canada are gearing up for their Fifth Annual Gala Dessert Fundraiser.

The annual event, set to take place May 9th this year at the Climax Hall, has become a special celebration for many area residents.

“People have been asking about the dessert fundraiser for months – which is pretty exciting for us,” smiled Rosalee Jarman, a member of the local volunteer group.

The dessert night – which has become an important fundraiser for the local volunteer effort – has drawn a generous response and sold out crowds.

Organizers have arranged another terrific evening this year, with several new twists.

This year’s guest speaker, for instance, will be Anne Reynolds who is a member of Breast Friends, a Saskatchewan group that raise funds for cancer causes through the sale of their national best-selling cookbooks.

Anyone hoping to attend the event will also want to know that ticket sales will be held on one day only. Those looking to attend the celebration will have to phone Nancy Kirk at 306-293-2244 on April 23rd in order to book their tickets. Only 120 tickets are being sold for the fundraiser this year.

Guests will also once again be treated to some delicious dessert offerings and a beautiful setting as each table in the hall will be decorated in a unique, eye-catching theme. The dessert selections this year will be created from Breast of Friends recipes.

This year’s gala will also feature a silent auction, door prizes, raffle tables and a Head & Tail auction.

The Head & Tail coin flip auction is particularly unique. Participants will be asked to select either heads or tails by placing their hands on their heads or . . . their tails. Those with their hands on the “winning end” will remain in the contest for the next round of action. The coin flips will continue until there is only one person still standing.

“It’s easy and quick to do and a lot of fun,” laughed Rosalee.

Victoria’s Quilts Canada is a non-profit charitable organization with a mission to provide a comfort quilt, free of charge, to cancer patients in Canada.

These quilts provide both physical and spiritual comfort during their struggle.

Since it was established in April of 2010, the Climax volunteer group – one of only two branches of Victoria’s Quilts Canada in Saskatchewan – has shipped over 750 quilts to appreciative recipients.

“It’s a nice accomplishment, but there is also some sadness connected to it as well,” said Rosalee.

The local project is run by a small team of dedicated volunteers who help administer the program and ship out the quilts. The group enjoys support from a variety of other volunteers who donate supplies and  help make quilts.

“We still get very good support with people donating fabric and helping out,” said Rosalee.

“There have been times when we’ve wondered how we were going to get things done and then someone will come along and donate some more fabric,” she added. “We see the Hand of God at work because things just happen when they need to.”
